Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has lauded his side for the win over Richards Bay after playing with ten-men for more than an hour and explained why he hauled off Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.
Chiefs beat the Natal Richboyz, who were leading the table and unbeaten going into round four of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season and their task for victory against the newly promoted side became all the harder when Yusuf Maart was sent off for a professional foul on the half-hour mark.
However, Amakhosi managed to hold their composure and structure and found the winner from the penalty spot in the 62nd minute as Dillan Solomons netted his first goal for the club.
“It was always going to be a difficult one for us, being one man down after being in control of the game and doing very well, we created a few chances, we didn’t take them and that gives [the opposition] hope,” Zwane told SuperSport TV after the game.
“But what I’m happy about is that even when we were one man down, we didn’t lose our structure. We kept on going, we kept the ball very well and created a few chances.
“Then we had to change a little bit, Mshini had to cover a lot of distance, he’s more of a playmaker, so we had to bring in Njabulo [Blom] to bring stability into the midfield, knowing we can then release Sekgota, Keagan and Khama and it worked for us.”
Chiefs moved up to eighth place with their second win in four games ahead of their next league clash against last season’s runners-up Cape Town City in mid-week.
