Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has reacted to his side’s heavy 4-0 defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.
Amakhosi made it hard for themselves after gifting the home side the first two goals following mistakes by Siyabonga Ngezana.
Even though Chiefs tried to come back into the game, Sundowns controlled the outcome of the tie, adding two more goals before the final whistle.
Zwane admitted that his side still have a long way to go, explaining they only played for 15 minutes in the tie.
“I think we started very, very slow. We were not ourselves,” Zwane told reporters.
“Judging by the goal we conceded, the first goal was a manna from heaven. The second goal I doubt it was a penalty, I think it was a soft penalty, but still we were not ourselves, we didn’t find into the game.
“I think we played about 45 minutes without any decent attempt on goals. Though we had some good few moments, I think maybe we could’ve done better, with Yusuf [Maart] the chance that went over the bar, it was a great move from the boys.
“Maybe it could be that the game we played on Tuesday, it took a lot from us, but I don’t want to make excuses.
“At half-time, we had to make changes. After those changes, I think we saw a little bit of positive attack that could’ve given us the goal, Reeve [Frosler], it could’ve changed the game, the completion of the game, we didn’t capitalise and immediately we conceded the third goal.
“Then we got a penalty and we missed it, from there we created another two clear-cut chances but we didn’t capitalise.
“We were not ourselves, we only played for 15 minutes in the second half, we looked better, we changed the structure, we looked like scoring in that 15 minutes and from there we lost it again.”
