Zwane Opens Up On Mistakes As Chiefs Head Coach

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has opened up on the mistakes he’s made in his debut season.

Zwane has come under pressure from the club’s supporters after an indifferent DStv Premiership campiagn as they look set to finish outside of the top three and miss out on CAF inter-club competition qualification.

They suffered their 10th league defeat to Swallows ahead of the Soweto Derby in the Nedbank Cup semi-final with Orlando Pirates and Zwane concedes lessons have been learned but they can’t dwell on it with the massive game on the horizon.

“I’ve learned a lot to be quite honest, so much has happened in terms on injuries and inconsistencies, and missed chances, it’s part of the game, it’s the nature of football,” Zwane said when asked by iDiski Times about the mistakes made this season.

“I can’t blame the players because I was once a player who made mistakes, like you said, I’ve made mistakes as a coach this season because it’s part of the game, it’s part of learning.

“We have moved on from the past mistakes, we felt at one point we rectified the issues but we’ve still [succumed] to those costly errors – so the best thing we can do is to focus on the next game, forget about the past, it won’t help us now.

“As much as we lost the game [against] Swallows, I think we created enough to win, we were sloppy in defence, gave them two or three chances to punish us and they managed to get two… if you look at the game, we had many box entries, about 26, with dominating possession – but if you don’t score goals it counts for nothing.”

Chiefs take on Pirates on Saturday afternoon at FNB Stadium looking towards securing six consecutive derby victories.
