Zwane Not Giving Up Hope At Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane is remaining upbeat about their 2022/23 season despite their inconsistent DStv Premiership campaign.

Chiefs started 2023 with a defeat at FNB Stadium on their 53rd anniversary against Sekhukhune United this weekend.

It left them in fourth place in the division, 13 points behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns while they spurned the chance to move second as SuperSport United and Richards Bay both tasted defeat in match week 15.

“I’m disappointed that it was our birthday and we wanted to give a good present to the Chairman, our forefathers, and all the people that have been part and parcel of this journey, it didn’t happen,” Zwane said.

“But these things happen and we’ll come back stronger because we created a lot of chances, I would be worried if we had a poor game but when you look at our game plan, it worked – it was just one night of disappointment.”

While there have been some positives, with the emergence of Samkelo Zwane and Mduduzi Shabalala in the first-team, Zwane feels consistency in their results is around the corner.

Their record reads seven wins, three draws and five defeats and he feels there’s still plenty to play for before the end of this season.

“It’s not the end of the world for us, we’ll regroup, we will go and look at ourselves and see where we can fix and improve and we’ll get going.

“This is our 15th game, we still have another 15 to play for, there’s a lot to play for and football is a funny game, it’s a very funny game.

“We might be losing today and there will be times where we gain momentum and win game after game. We will get to that point, it’s part of football.”
