Zwane Makes Bold Chiefs Claim

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has assured fans that one day a team will get hammered by his side, looking at the amount of chances they created against Chippa United.

Chiefs went down to Chippa 2-1 in a DStv Premiership match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, ending their three-game winning streak.

It was Chiefs’ first loss at “home” this season, which saw them miss a big chance to go top of the DStv Premiership.

While Chiefs lost, it was not a lack of effort. They completely dominated the first half but they only converted one chance from a set play through Siyabonga Ngezana just before half-time.

They did not increase the lead in the second stanza, despite again numerous chances being created. Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana missed one when he should have hooked it in and it was the same with Keagan Dolly, who was also profligacy in the front goals.

Substitute Siyethemba Sithebe blasted the side netting when scoring was easy to do. With these chances created, Zwane says one team in this league will suffer an evisceration at the hands of Amakhosi.

“One of these teams, on another day, we will score five or score six because chances we are creating them,” Zwane said.

Chiefs next face struggling TS Galaxy, who they host at FNB Stadium on Wednesday (19:30). Galaxy is without a win in seven matches, with their last victory coming against SuperSport United in August.

“Galaxy is in the zone where they are in a bad space, if I can put it that way,” Zwane continued.

“They want to climb the ladder a little bit, so they are not going to give us the points on a silver platter. We are going to dig deeper while we are preparing for a cup game.”

Zwane also said the loss to Chippa was a big setback since they have a big match against AmaZulu in the MTN8 second leg semi-final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday. AmaZulu have a slender lead as they scored in the first leg (1-1).

“It is a concern because I was hoping we’ll get maximum points and go to Galaxy and build confidence,” said Zwane.

“But I guess it happens for a reason not winning this game. Maybe we were overconfident going to the cup and also Galaxy. So it is more like a wake-up call for the boys.

“But, like I said, the boys did their best, they created chances. Yes, we made mistakes and football is a game of mistakes, and it is how you come back after a mistake.

“And for me this was a setback, but I have no doubt that we have shown that we can beat anyone.”

Chiefs last time won by six goals in the league was back in the 2012/13 season, crushing AmaZulu by 6-0, with Bernard Parker, now at Galaxy, scoring four on the day.
