Zwane – Football Can Be A Funny Game
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane refused to single anyone out for their defeat to Sekkhukhune United on their 53rd anniversary at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Vusimuzi Mncube scored the only goal of the game as he profited from a mistake from Zitha Kwinika on the halfway line and ran clean through on goal before beating an onrushing Itumeleng Khune.
While Chiefs spurned several chances and found Ivory Coast international Badra Ali Sangare in fine form, it was Brandon Truter’s side who secure three points, spoiling the party at the Calabash.
“I think sometimes football can be funny, we started the game a little bit sluggish, we allowed them to press us and not allowing to have time and space on the ball – but at the same time we had opportunities,” Zwane said at FNB Stadium after the game.
“We wanted to apply pressure to get that spaces in behind, I think the first half we had better chances than them to go into the break leading at least 2-0, it wasn’t to be…
“Second half, against the run of play, one mistake, we conceded… even before that I think we created a couple of chances we could have capitalised on.
“After conceding, we looked like scoring at any given time but it was one of those nights, where you can try everything but the keeper kept them in the game.
“We ended up losing but can’t falter the boys, they gave their best, did everything, and from the mistake, we can only learn from our mistakes… next time we’ll maybe be able to bury the chances we’re creating, that’s why I said football can be funny sometimes.”
