Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has explained why the defensive duo of Thabani Dube and Njabulo Ngcobo haven’t featured much this season, despite the club’s problems at the back.
Chiefs defence has been inconsistent since the beginning of the season, conceding a15 goals in 12 DStv Premiership games.
The Soweto giants have been letting in goals, costing them valuable points this season.
And with that in mind Zwane says two of the club’s highly-rated defenders Dube and Ngcobo remain positive and are doing great at training despite their lack of game time.
ZWANE ON DUBE AND NGCOBO
“There is no doubt those are good players, but when you are preparing a team you have challenges here and there,” Zwane told the media.
“You look at how you conceding goals, how you are building up from the back and what can help you get to the final third.
“Once you get those players when you building a team, you go for the players you think will help the team to produce the results so that everyone can settle in.
“At the moment it’s been fluctuating, we are trying to get that consistency of which at one stage we won three games in a row and we thought we getting it right, but still we made costly mistakes.
“Because of the character that these boys have shown, so far we managed to come back and grind the results.”
Zwane further stated that Ngcobo and Dube will definitely get some opportunities to prove themselves in the field of play.
“Time will come for them to play, and like any other player who is not playing of which, I believe they also deserve to play,” added the Amakhosi coach.
“Unfortunately, right now we need to build a team that will help others to settle and feel at home. When the time comes they will be ready to perform.”
The Soweto giants take on AmaZulu in the MTN8 semi final second leg on Sunday. Kickoff is at Moses Mabhida Stadium is at 15:30.
