Zwane eager to end Royal AM dominance

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane insists they are heading to KZN to grind results and to get maximum points when they face tricky Royal AM on Saturday afternoon for their DStv Premiership opener.

Zwane is aware of Thwihli Thwahla’s threat after their opponents defeated them home and away last season.

Heading into Saturday’s match, he anticipates a difficult match with both teams completely different from last season. New players were brought in, and Royal AM’s bench has a new technical team.

“They are going to be a difficult team, and they are playing at home, and they want to get maximum points. We’re going to take the game to them, as much as we playing away we going to dig deeper, we going there to grind results we not going to hesitate,” Zwane told the media.

“I think last season we played against a solid team. You would recall they were more like Bloemfontein Celtic and coach John Maduka who has been with them for quite some time. There was chemistry in terms of understanding the tactical approach. They managed to take six points from us.”

“They hammered us in our back yard. They beat us four. In the second round, I think they beat us one nil. It was very close. We lost the game through a penalty. In terms of possession, we matched them pound-for-pound. We created more clinical chances than them on the day. We were just unfortunate not to be clinical in front of the goal and ended up losing the game.”

“This time around, we play against a team that we know very well. They got a new technical staff; coach Khabo Zondo and Dan Malesela, also their new playing personnel. That alone tells you the approach is going to be totally different.”

10111 further named the Royal AM trio that his charges should be aware of as they can pose a huge threat.

“Their attack, they got two big guys in front; [Andre] De Jong and [Mxolisi] Macuphu, who are very good in terms of holding the ball and allowing others to join and connect with them. They have a player like [Shaune] Mogaila on the right who is very explosive and skilful. They play more like a 3-5-2, that can easily change to 4-4-2,” he added.

Kickoff at Chatsworth Stadium is at 17h30.
