Zwane Admits One Concern Over Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs conceding early goals regularly is starting to become a real concern for head coach Arthur Zwane, who admitted they have been working on the training ground to avoid it.

Chiefs have conceded in the opening 15 minutes of six of their nine games played this season after Gabadinho Mhango’s 14th-minute opener in their first leg MTN8 semi-final on Sunday afternoon.

While they managed to rally back to secure a draw in front of their home fans at FNB to take to Durban in three weeks’ time, Zwane admits he’s beginning to sound like a stuck record after games.

Having spent the last few training sessions in an attempt to stop the poor starts to games and rather take advantage, he was left frustrated by their lack of control against Brandon Truter’s side.

“We started very slow, very slow, we gave them time and space on the ball with their build-up, and from those build-ups, you could see it was a warning, they had about two chances that they could have capitalised on before they scored the goal,” Zwane said in the post-match press conference.

“After conceding it was again, a wake-up call which is a worrying factor, you know from our side because it’s something we’ve been working on to start on a high note.

“After we conceded, we showed a little bit of aggression and created a number of chances, we couldn’t capitalise and in the second half we came back stronger but again we were not clinical enough to make our life easy going into the second round.”

Chiefs will now turn their attention to Soweto rivals Swallows on Wednesday as they face off at Dobsonville in their DStv Premiership clash at 19h30.
