Zwane Admits It Was A Game To Forget

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane admits their performance in the 2-1 win over Casric in the Nedbank Cup last-16 was not up to standard.

Amakhosi secured a place in the quarter-final of the competition with Bonfils Caleb Bimenyimana scoring from the spot and Ashley du Preez netting in the second half between Kgomotso Mosadi’s equaliser.

However, the first-half display left a lot to be desired with a high turnover of possession and no real control of the game – something Zwane admitted was due to the opposition they faced.

“If you watched the game, it is always… difficult to play against teams that are coming from the first division for instance, they play with energy more than structure and yes, I think we know we could have done better today,” Zwane said when asked by iDiski Times about the indifferent display.

“We always want to play to our utmost best and have an identity in how we want to play – and this is one game to forget according to our standards. I think we went down to their level, take nothing away from them, they are a good team, and they have their strengths and weaknesses but we know we could have done better.”

Zwane stated that grinding the result to advance to the next round remained imperative despite not reaching the required expectations set when coming into the fixture at FNB Stadium on Sunday evening.

“But days like this in football, find players in that situation for some reasons, as coaches, we don’t give up working with players, trying to get the best out of players and the club going forward, so that is very key.

“This is one game, as I said, just to forget, but what was important for us was to go to the next round [of the Nedbank Cup].”

Chiefs will now turn their attention to Maritzburg United as they look to challenge for second place to secure CAF Champions League qualification next season.
