Zwane Addresses Imbalanced Chiefs XI

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has addressed the imbalanced starting XI fans voted for ahead of the Soweto Derby in the Carling Black Label Cup semi-final.

Chiefs fans selected players like Eric Mathoho and Njabulo Ngcobo in the line-up despite the duo seeing little game-time under Zwane this campaign. With S’fiso Hlanti and Edmilson Dove the other two defenders, there is no right-back in the Chiefs starting XI.

Perhaps, the Amakhosi could move Njabulo Blom, who excelled in the defensive midfield position off late, back to right-back but he was listed as a midfielder.

However, Zwane has insisted he welcomes the selection headache and will come up with a plan for the eagerly awaited clash.

“It comes in the element of improvisation when it comes to that because we’re going to have see as to how we’re going to balance the team,” he told reporters on Thursday.

“The good thing as coaches, the reason we attended coaching courses is for that – that ability to see things and come up with a plan.

“We can’t call ourselves tacticians when we can’t even plan. Yes, that might be another option for us but we’ll look how we can balance the squad to make sure that we have the team to go out there and compete.”

Two weeks ago, Chiefs won the Soweto in the DStv Premiership thanks to a wonder goal by Yusuf Maart from his own half. However, Pirates have since won the MTN8 trophy and enter the game with new momentum, while the Amakhosi had a one-week break.
