AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu says Usuthu are focussed on surviving relegation before he might make more technical team and player changes.
Zungu, speaking to the iDiski Times, said he never envisaged in his reign as Usuthu boss that he will use the term “relegation” as he has high standards and ambitions.
Usuthu have fired two coaches this season, starting with Brandon Truter in October last year. The now Sekhukhune United coach was replaced by Romain Folz, who was then re-deployed by the club as the technical advisor to Zungu earlier this month, with Ayanda Dlamini taking over until the end of the season on the caretaker basis.
But things have also not worked well for the former Usuthu striker, drawing one and losing the other in two matches in charge. This has led to Usuthu to slump down to 12th on the DStv Premiership table with 29 points after 26 matches.
They are just three points ahead of Chippa United in the relegation/promotion spot and four ahead of Maritzburg United at the bottom, triggering the fear from Zungu about his team’s state this term.
“We are all very worried,” Zungu told iDiski Times.
“But I can assure you that the mistakes the boys made, especially on Sunday against SuperSport United, if they want to correct that, they must adopt the right kind of approach to the game against Sekhukhune [at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday] and the following one [against Mamelodi Sundowns on 3 May].
“I feel we can get the three points and we will survive the relegation, something that is painful to me because I never imagined that I’ll even utter the word relegation.
“All I can say is that we will avoid relegation and we will play in the top flight next season and we will take it from there.”
There are rumours that Folz might walk away from the club after he was re-deployed as ‘technical director’ to work close to the Usuthu president but Zungu said the former Marumo Gallants coach’s future is secured, for now, while he also hinted at wielding the axe after the season again.
“Folz is the technical director and I made it very clear he will be my advisor as the president of the club,” said Zungu.
“That is not a secret. What will happen in future – it might be the player, coach or technical director or the general manager, that will be clear when the season is finished.

“I’m the only one who knows the future of everyone within the club.”
