Zungu Slammed After Red Card In Defeat

Bongani Zungu has been slammed by Amiens head coach Philippe Hinschberger after his game-changing red card on Saturday evening.

The Bafana Bafana international, 29, who’s been featured in a new central defence role was sent off just after the hour with his side 1-0 up in the game with an 8th-minute goal from Mateo Pavlovic.

But Pau fought back to win the game 2-1 with goals in the final ten minutes after the game, leaving Hinschberger incense by Zungu’s ill-discipline for his straight red card for what was described as a ‘dispute’.

“Angry? The word is weak… I am failing to understand [how we lost the game]. It’s a game that we have to win without a hitch, we even have the ball 2-0 by Chadrac [Akolo],” he said after the game, as per MaLigue2.

“The red card is abnormal and everything is summed up in these two turning points of the match. I don’t want to attack the referee who was better, the fault is entirely on Zungu.

“I’m neither in his head nor in his body but he’s going to get the card. We shot ourselves in the foot, we can say that we scuttled ourselves.”

It was Zungu’s third consecutive start for the French club as he looked to have won the faith of the Amiens boss since returning to fitness.
