Zungu Sends Warning To AmaZulu Players

AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu says he expects all the players to respect new coach Romain Folz despite his young age.

Folz, who was appointed on Sunday until the end of the season, is 32 years old and younger than veteran Lehlohonolo Majoro who is 36.

Majoro was rumoured to have started a revolt at Usuthu camp against former coach Brandon Truter and he was also one of those players who was said to have dropped his guard down to see the sacking of Benni McCarthy in March.

Against Richards Bay last week on Wednesday, it was clear as daylight when Majoro was taken off. He didn’t shake the hands of Truter despite the former club coach having offered to, throwing his hands in the air and showing total displeasure at being taken off.

Folz will also have to deal with other egos in the camp but Zungu insisted the players must know their place and follow the new coach.

“The coach is the one in charge and others will follow his instructions,” said Zungu.

“I expect respect whether he’s younger or old, we appointed him because we trust him. The respect of the players, they are signed to play and win the matches for the club, and that is expected.

“If these are not met, we will easily see that. But we chose him because we know he knows his story.”

Zungu has also informed his new coach that he wants to win trophies and see the return of his investments. He said he won’t interfere with the work of Folz after the Frenchman experienced that when he was Marumo Gallants which led him to leave the club earlier this season.

“At AmaZulu, we don’t interfere with the work of the coaches,” Zungu added.

“I didn’t interfere with Ayanda, I didn’t interfere with Benni, I didn’t interfere with Truter and I’ll not interfere at the work of Folz. I also don’t want anyone interfering in his work because I don’t want a coach when he fails, then he comes and says they interfered in my work.

“We all know why he left Marumo Gallants because we saw in the papers that there was interference in his work. Here he’s at home because we don’t do that.”

Folz will have meetings with the club management, players and conduct video sessions where he will outline on how he approaches matches. He admitted the time he has with Orlando Pirates coming up on Friday, it was short.
