Zuma Restaurant Not Named After Former President

Durban businessman and restaurateur David Manal has cleared the confusion about the newly opened Zuma restaurant at the Pearls of uMhlanga, north of Durban.

No stranger to ceremonial ribbon cutting, the medical parolee was well enough to show off his dance moves at the opening of Zuma, after accepting an invitation from celebrity chef David Manal.

The Saudi businessman, who relocated to South Africa in 2000 and owns multiple restaurants in Durban, said he was the owner of the restaurant where Zuma and his former financial adviser Schabir Shaik were spotted enjoying themselves.

Manal said the name Zuma meant “peace” in Arabic, adding there were several restaurants in London, Miami and New York called “Zuma”.

With Zuma cutting the red ribbon when the eatery opened on Friday, many assumed that the restaurant, named Zuma, was in his honour.
