The battle between expelled former ANC president Jacob Zuma and the “ANC of Ramaphosa” is far from over.

This is according to ANC veteran Tony Yengeni, who represented Zuma in his disciplinary hearing which ended with Zuma being expelled from the party.

Zuma was found to have transgressed the ANC constitution by forming Umkhonto Wesizwe and campaigning against the ANC.

Yengeni said Zuma is studying the judgment with his lawyers but is determined to fight to the very end.

Already, Zuma’s team is accusing the ANC of lying when it claimed a pre-trial conference was held with Zuma’s representative.

Yengeni said he was the one who called for the pre-trial conference, but it never happened.

He told the SABC that right through the process, he was intimidated with a flood of SMS messages from ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula.

“There was the Mbalula text that I received on a Saturday evening, while I was at home. And then, this text says ‘what are you doing?’.

“This is after I had appeared in the DC [disciplinary committee] on Wednesday. It said ‘Who do you think you are? Do you want to destroy the ANC?’

“Under normal circumstances I would have responded to that because I don’t get intimidated easily,” said  Yengeni.

As far as Yengeni is concerned, Zuma did not get a fair hearing.

The ANC national disciplinary committee has given Msholozi 21 days to take the matter to the party’s appeal committee.
