Most people have gotten to know Zonke Mchunu for her role as Imani Nkosi on Muvhango. The actress has taken on the role flawlessly and made many people believe she is her character. She has found herself a victim of an attack from a show fan because of her acting. That shows that she is a professional and well trained in her craft, so her fans have been curious about her qualifications.

Zonke had a very rough childhood, starting when her father passed on when she was 11 years old. Her mother was left alone to take care of six children alone. This put a dent in Zonke’s education and career path. Being a bright student, she started pursuing a Civil Engineering qualification at Berea Tech. However, financial constraints at home made her drop out and not finish the programme.

Mchunu did not let her situation stop her dreams and applied for financial aid. She was accepted at the Durban University of Technology and given financial help. She started studying drama and theatre even though her first love was dancing. Growing up, while watching Jika majika and Sarafina, she also taught herself how to dance. She is good at dancing and claims that it helps heal her when she is down.

The actress’ debut in the acting industry came with a role as an extra in Uzalo. She played a singer in the church choir and chose to keep learning the acting craft. She attended a lot of Duma Ndlovu acting workshops fr a year before landing the role of Imani, which she has been holding for several years now.

Her character has been labelled a gold digger onscreen as she snatched her friend’s fiancee. A fan attacked the actress in a shopping mall for being a gold digger onscreen. This made the actress try and raise awareness that their fans should not confuse their roles for what they do in real life.
