Zolisa has at last divulged the reason why he left Gomora. The news that Melusi, one of the show’s favourite characters, was leaving upset Gomora viewers.
Popular South African performer Zolisa Xaluva took on the Melusi role of a devout and reputable school principal:
“I liked that portrayal of a black man, unlike the characters on screen that aren’t reflective of who we are as men. I loved that he was attempting to be a good father as unorthodox as he was, ” he added in a recent podcast interview on Podcast and Chill with MacG.
After Season 2, the star bid the telenovela goodbye, ending the match made in heaven; he discussed his departure from the show in public for the first time on the Podcast And Chill with Mac G.
The actor claimed that one of the reasons he left the telenovela was because they started to stray from what the character originally stood for. “Part of the reasons I left the show was that they deviated from the original concept of him being pure and a good man.“We had conversations about what we were going to do for season three, but ultimately we were like let’s park it for now until we can find a way to redeem the character for the future,” he said.
He was “an upstanding member of the community,” according to Zolisa, which was his favourite quality in Melusi. In contrast to the characters on screen who don’t accurately represent black men, I liked that portrayal of a black man. He was so unconventional, but I loved that he was trying to be a good father and community member.” Everything that he did came out of love for his family and community,” he added.
Zolisa sees acting differently. He views it as art rather than acting and regards himself as a creative person. Xaluva felt he had lost his identity as an artist when Gomora producers began making the Melusi character intolerable.
However, he only provided a partial explanation. Many people think he left mainly because he allegedly constantly argued with producers and insisted on having things done his way.
