Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya is proving that goals know no borders.
The Zimbabwean striker has taken the Betway Premiership by storm, firing eight goals in seven matches to establish himself as the early Golden Boot favourite and one of the main reasons behind AmaZulu FC’s impressive start to the season.
The 23-year-old forward has started all seven league matches, playing 532 minutes, while also providing one assist. His eight goals have helped AmaZulu climb to third place with 16 points after seven matches.
Ngwenya has been particularly lethal in front of goal, including a stunning brace against Mamelodi Sundowns despite AmaZulu losing 5-2. He has also scored in victories over Stellenbosch, Siwelele, Richards Bay, Marumo Gallants and Polokwane City.
His journey to becoming one of South Africa’s hottest strikers started at home in Zimbabwe, where he came through the ranks at FC Platinum.
AmaZulu’s official profile describes him as a quick striker who began his career at FC Platinum and established himself as one of the club’s top forwards. His performances for Zimbabwe at the 2025 COSAFA Cup in Bloemfontein helped attract attention from South African clubs and eventually earned him his move to Usuthu.
Ngwenya joined AmaZulu in July 2025 after an impressive spell at FC Platinum, where he scored nine goals in 18 league appearances in his final Zimbabwean season.
He continued that form in South Africa, scoring six league goals in his first season with AmaZulu. Now, with eight goals after only seven games this campaign, the Zimbabwean is threatening to turn the Golden Boot race into his personal shooting contest.
AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane has already backed his young marksman to reach the 20-goal mark if he remains fit and continues receiving quality service.
Ngwenya and AmaZulu will return to league action on Tuesday, 13 October, when they travel to face Durban City.
With the Golden Boot firmly in his sights, the Zimbabwean goal machine will be hoping to keep his scoring boots hot when Usuthu resume their campaign.
