After being starved of game time at Luton Town, lanky Zimbabwean international Admiral Muskwe is set for a late loan switch to Ipswich in the Skybet Championship, it has emerged.
The 24-year-old is one of the players that have been reduced to bench warmers by Nathan Jones, and the gaffer is first to admit that the out-of-favour players need game time elsewhere.
And while a loan move to the third tier, League One, has been considered, Ipswich has emerged as his next possible destination.
Potentially, Muskwe could share the same dressing room with his compatriot Macauley Bonne who is unhappy at his current club, Queens Park Rangers and is plotting to join Ipswich.
“It’s just about game time for Muskwe and Carlos Mendes Gomes. We like them; they’re good players. It’s just about getting game time.
“They would have done (gone on loan) regardless of the cup. There’s one or two that need the exposure, need the game time for their own development and their own sanity really,” Jones said.
Ipswich’s main target is George Hirst, who they have been monitoring for a while with the intention of luring him before the transfer window closes.
If they fail in their bid to lure Hirst, Luton Town has said Muskwe is available as an option to fill the void.
Bonne is also angling to get that slot as he feels unhappy at QPR.
According to Luton Town coach Jones, the increased levels of competition within their ranks are forcing him to loan out some of the decent players, Muskwe included, who have had less game time primarily to enhance their development.
Meanwhile, a move to League One has also been considered, although nothing has materialized.
The Leicester City product, however, put in a good shift on Saturday when Luton Town beat Swansea City 2-0.
That was his first start of the season in the absence of the injured Harry Cornick, and he gave a convincing performance, although he was not on target.
