Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule allegedly found out she had cancer in 2019 but chose to keep it a secret and not take medication or undergo any treatment for it.
Sources in the Mbokazi-Nkambule family revealed to Scrolla.Africa that the legendary Ukhozi FM presenter, who passed away in July aged 52, knew about her cancer diagnosis for years.
Two reliable sources claim the Eshilo host told close friends about her illness but chose not to undergo chemotherapy, believing in divine healing.
Mbokazi-Nkambule, the founder of the Crown Gospel Awards, reportedly asked these friends to keep her condition secret, especially from her children – actress Yolanda and Mawande Myeza – to avoid affecting their tertiary education.
“She informed us not to tell anyone at the time she was diagnosed with cancer,” one source told Scrolla.Africa. “She asked us to keep it a secret so that this information would not reach her children because she felt that it was going to affect [them].”
Another source added: “It was going to be a hard pill to swallow for her kids since they were still in tertiary. She never wanted her kids to be depressed about her sickness.”
Sphe Mwandla, the Crown Gospel Awards spokesperson, denied knowledge of the claims.
“I have no idea or clue of the above allegations,” he said. “I cannot comment further. We are currently focused on working towards the 17th edition of the Crown Gospel Music Awards – the legacy of Zanele Mbokazi.”
