On Wednesday the Senzo Meyiwa trial took a sharp turn as it was revealed that an eyewitness will testify in Pretoria High Court that the former Bafana Bafana captain was allegedly shot by his then-girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, by accident. Could the witness be Zandile Khumalo-Gumede?
Hmmm, Zandie who is Kelly’s sister was in the house when Meyiwa was murdered. And now, released a single with cryptic lyrics just hours after court proceedings ended on Wednesday. Mind you, she is also named as one of the defendants in the State’s case involving the death of Senzo Meyiwa.

Zandile’s lyrics for her new single Ikhwela have also received attention, with lines like “The time has now come for the whistle to be blown.” They have led some to believe she is the eyewitness mentioned in court.
“The time has now come for the whistle to be blown.” They have made some think that she could be the eyewitness the court heard about.

Teffo also stated that the same witness will testify that the firearm Kelly Khumalo used to shoot Meyiwa came with Chicco Twala’s son, Longwe and that it is a revolver, not a 9mm pistol, as the State claims.
The Khumalo sisters’ relationship had always been tight, but cracks appeared in 2020 when Zandile accused Kelly of being “toxic.”

“I put it to you Mr Mosia that an eyewitness will come and testify that Senzo Robert Meyiwa was allegedly shot by Nonhlanhla Kelly Khumalo by mistake,” defence lawyer, Advocate Malesela Teffo said while cross-examining forensic officer, Sergeant Thabo Mosia.

“The first and the last time I went to jail was because of her, the first time I was questioned by police and even put through a lie detector test. It was because of her…the first time I saw drugs with my own eyes was because of her. I have endured so much abuse and nonsense from her, but I kept quiet because that is the type of person I am,” Zandile said.
