Zamani Mbatha from Black Door speaks about love life, career and his role as Khaya on eTV soapie

Zamani Mbatha has been hard at work promoting The Black Door. The young man is currently a lead character in the controversial ETV Soapie.

On Friday the 22nd of July, he went around several Radio stations in Durban, including the famous Ukhozi FM.

Mbatha tackled everything about his life, from his career choices to his life as a young man growing up in KZN.

As you all know, Zamani is the younger brother of Nomzamo Mbatha, and he says that his sister is very much influential in his career.

He says he explored many of his talents, from Soccer to Rugby, and they all didn’t work out until the acting bug like his sister also bit him, and he never looked back from there.

Zamani first broke into the industry through the hit series on Mzansi Magic called Isithembiso. The Soapie went off the air in 2020.

Viewers fell in love with his vulnerability on screen, and he has been in demand since then.

He says that his first audition with Hamilton Dlamini, who played the role of Banzi on Isithembiso, was magical. Zamani says he felt goosebumps and that everything felt aligned, and they have been friends since then.

Mbatha said that when he first auditioned for The Black Door, he didn’t have full details of the role he would be playing. He says that once he got the full brief, he had to make some phone calls just to help him decide on whether to take the job or not.

Zamani plays Khaya on The Black Door, a young man who is thrust into the world of prostitution to pay off a debt caused by his brother, who was killed. Kaya makes a deal with the devil,l an evil woman who owns the Black Door Rebecca, played brilliantly by Linda Sebezo.

He spoke about how hard it is for him to do that part because he has to perform very intense and explicit scenes.

Zamani says his ultimate goal is to go to Hollywood eventually. He says when he leaves, he wants to make it count for something, like what his sister did. Nomzamo made history when she was cast in the reboot of the classic 80’s movie Coming 2 America with Superstars Eddie Murphy and Morgan Freeman.

Mbatha was shy when asked about his dating life, but he was unequivocal that at the moment, he was single.
