Bulelwa ‘Zahara’ Mkutukana’s life was celebrated by family, friends, and colleagues at a memorial service that took place this Thursday.
The sister of the late star recounts how the singer took her final breath in the private hospital where she was admitted due to liver complications.
At the memorial service, Zahara’s sister, Bulelwa Mtukutwana said the doctor called them to return to the hospital as the singer’s condition had worsened.
“It’s not easy to say she must rest in peace, but she was in pain at the hospital. I remember just after we left for the 3:00pm visit, at 17:00 pm the doctor called and said we must come back.”
The family returned and were asked to stay in the singer’s room to witness as she drew her last breath.
“They told us to stay in the room and wait to see when Bulelwa will leave us. We called you for that. It was so painful; we were crying and prayed for four hours,” she emotionally said.
Zahara’s funeral will take place on 23 December in the Phumlani Informal Settlement of East London, Eastern Cape.
