The remarkable Yvonne Chaka Chaka truly owned the 18th of March, because it marked not only her 61st birthday, but she also clinched the Legacy Award at the 2026 Forbes Leadership Women Summit, which took place in Sandton.

The name Yvonne Chaka Chaka is synonymous with all things nostalgia within the realm of African music. It is truly a blessing that she’s still thriving having started her music career at a tender, age of nineteen.

Yvonne, a philanthropist as well, has been out and about of late. On Saturday, 14 March, the musician enjoyed a fun-filled evening at the birthday celebration of fellow artist Lira held at Hugh’s Jazz Club in Braamfontein.

The Umqombothi singer expressed her gratitude to God for blessing her with more years of life, while her wonderful fans showered her with kind wishes, with many commenting on how fantastic she looks at her age.

The 61‑year‑old icon from Soweto, flanked by her sons Shilungwa and Mandla, wrapped up the night with a cool acknowledgment at the Forbes event.

The event honoured women who are excelling in their respective fields, with Yvonne being celebrated for her impressive strides in the music industry.
