YouTube Tests New Lock Screen Feature For Premium Users
YouTube is currently in the process of experimenting with a novel feature for its Premium subscribers—a lock screen option.
This addition aims to prevent accidental disruptions to videos caused by unintentional taps. The company recently revealed this trial on its YouTube Experiments page.

Referred to as “Lock Screen,” this feature disables touch input when users are watching videos in full-screen mode. With the lock enabled, concerns about inadvertently pausing, skipping, or selecting suggested videos can be put to rest.
Users who have been granted access to this test can simply tap on the gear icon located in the top left corner of their screen to activate the feature.
As reported by Cord Cutters News, the lock screen feature is currently exclusive to selected Premium subscribers on Android and iOS devices.
YouTube has provided users until July 30 to try out this functionality. To check if they have been invited to participate, users can visit the YouTube homepage.
Netflix introduced a similar feature called “screen lock” in 2020 through its mobile app. This feature allows subscribers to disable buttons such as play and pause by tapping a lock icon at the bottom of the screen.
By doing so, subscribers can prevent accidental interruptions to playback or the accidental activation of subtitles.
Apart from the lock screen experiment, YouTube is conducting several other tests. One such test involves warning users about the potential blocking of the video player after three videos if they continue using ad blockers.

YouTube is also reportedly exploring the idea of an online gaming offering, which would enable users to play games directly on the YouTube website or app.
