‘You give me too much credit’, Mihlali Ndamase on Encouraging Women to Request Girlfriend Allowance
In a recent interview on L-Tido’s podcast, YouTuber Mihlali Ndamase expressed that she is not concerned about the opinions of those who believe she played a role in popularizing the concept of a girlfriend allowance. Mihlali remains unapologetic and unbothered by these claims.
“I saw a video of Nota saying his wife came up to him and asked him for a wife allowance, this was attributed to her seeing a video of you saying/encouraging ladies they need to get their wife or girlfriend allowance. What is a sufficient girlfriend allowance for Mihlali?” asked the rapper.
When asked about her influence over women, Mihlali appeared to be unfamiliar with the individual named Nota and denied having any control or power over other women’s decisions.
“Hold on, so has no-one else in the world spoke about an allowance? Ya’ll give me too much credit. Let me clarify something. I’ve never said put a gun to a man’s head and say he must give you an allowance.”
“We all know there is a lot of married women who get a certain amount of money from their husbands to maintain the household every month, so what is the shock about?” she asked.
In a recent candid moment, Mihlali shared details about her romantic relationship. She revealed that she and her partner first met through a video call. The couple later enjoyed their first date together in Cape Town at a restaurant with a stunning view of the beach. They also visited a popular club during their time together.
“I was charmed from the beginning, from the moment I spoke to this man. We were on the phone for six weeks until he couldn’t wait any longer,” she said.
“I caught feelings. Love him like it’s day one, from the moment we met we both just knew. Our first kiss was on the first day we met. He claims he did not know who I am.”
