Marumo Gallants head coach Dan Malesela sent out a clear message after dumping Orlando Pirates from the Nedbank Cup.
The 2017 Nedbank Cup winner led Gallants past Pirates 5-4 on penalties after the game finished 1-1 after 120 minutes of football.
And after the full-time whistle, he stated he’s made it clear to his squad they are not in the business to be average as he targets a strong end to the season in the DStv Premiership and Nedbank Cup.
“It’s one match at a time, you can’t pride yourself when you don’t have a trophy in your hand, you cannot play in the league and boast when your sitting in number 11, what are you boasting about,” Malesela told SuperSport TV.
“I don’t take that nonsense you know, I want you to play for things, you must play for pride, you must play for trophies, there must be something to show for at the end of the season.
“If you play a season and you don’t win anything, there’s nothing to show? It’s a waste of a season. You want to be number 13? You will be number 13 everytime.”
Gallants have won five games and drawn one in their last six games under Malesela across all competitions.
