‘You are not gone, just missing from my life’

Lynn Forbes is celebrating what would have been the 38th birthday of her late son and award-winning rapper, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, who was better known as AKA.

AKA passed away on February 10, 2023 at the tender age of 35  after he was fatally shot outside a restaurant on Florida Road in Durban. He was shot along with his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, in what police believe was a planned assassination.

Celebrating AKA’s life, the mother of the slain rapper took to her Instagram page to pen an earnest note. Starting her note, she said: “Hey Kiernan, You’re not gone, just missing from my life.

“We had so many moments, highs and lows but these days I choose to remember the highs. Your laugh that was more like a chuckle, our chats, the way you’d get excited when you had a new idea. I think about the hugs, the teasing, the small everyday moments that made up our life together. Some part of you always remained a little boy.”

Reflecting on the void which her son has left, Lynn fondly remembered the little special moments she shared with him.

“So many of those little things are missing from my days now, your voice calling me maaaa! The phone calls. The lunches and just lying on the couch watching Dexter or Somebody Please Feed Phil. The way you ate those ice lollies and chewed very load sometimes. I miss packing my bags to go live with you every two weeks when it was Kairo’s week with you (I actually never thought I would miss having to pack a bag) It’s really the little things that count the most.

“I carry it all with me. Every memory. Every version of you I was lucky enough to know … and will always treasure. Always in my heart, Mom,” she added.
