Former Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure continues to carve his name as a coach after landing a job at Tottenham Hotspur.
The ex-Ivory Coast international has been appointed as the Under 16 coach of the London-based club.
Following the club’s announcement of the development, Toure said he was excited and believes he has everything it takes to succeed.
In a tweet after the announcement, he wrote: “I am delighted to be working at @SpursOfficial alongside brilliant coaches and young players.
“Everyone at the Academy and across the Club has made me feel very welcome.
“Thanks also to my friend and advisor @Leon_Mann for his support here. Let’s do this! COYS!!”
The 39-year-old has previously worked at Ukrainian side Olimpik Donetsk and Russia’s Akhmat Grozny, whom he left last year. Since then, he has been at Spurs on a part-time basis, working with the Under 18s.
Former Manchester United player Simon Davies also joins the Tottenham academy and will serve as head of methodology.
Toure, who was capped 100 times for his national team, is one of his generation’s best African players, having spent most of his career as a stellar box-to-box midfielder. Growing up, he reportedly wanted to play as a striker, although he had a stint as a centre-back.
He was named African Footballer of the Year for four successive years between 2011 and 2014.
His career took off at Ivorian giants Asec Mimosas, debuting at the age of 18 before making a move to Europe. He featured for Beveren, Metalurh Donetsk, Olympiacos and Monaco, getting his Barcelona breakthrough in 2007.
With the Catalan giants, he made history when he was part of the team that won six trophies in a calendar year in 2009.
He then moved to City in 2010 and helped them win their first league title in 44 years.
