Xolani Khumalo returns to court amid GBH charges and smear campaign claims

Xolani Khumalo

Xolani Khumalo is expected back at the Palm Ridge Magistrates’ Court as he faces a charge of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH).

The former Sizok’thola presenter, who is also an ActionSA mayoral candidate for Ekurhuleni, previously handed himself over to police in January 2026 after reports linked him to an alleged assault incident in 2025.

The matter reportedly involves an individual said to have confessed to being a drug dealer.

Khumalo and his co-accused, Duma Radebe, made another appearance at the Palm Ridge court on Thursday, 14 May 2026, following a postponement in April.

At the previous sitting, proceedings were delayed to allow for further preparation after the State indicated that the prosecutor was unavailable.

The trial is now expected to proceed.

Throughout the legal process, Khumalo has maintained that the case against him is not straightforward, insisting it forms part of a wider effort to discredit his anti-crime work in Ekurhuleni.

He has repeatedly framed the matter as a targeted attempt to undermine his public initiatives.

Taking to his official X account, he expressed appreciation to supporters who have stood by him during the court appearances.

“Thank you, fellow Actioners and Ekurhuleni residents, for standing with me through this trial. Together we will fix Ekurhuleni,” he wrote.
