Wydad Boss Responds To Ahly CAFCL Request

Wydad Atheltic Club President Said Naciri says Al Ahly can’t pressure the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to change the venue of the Champions League final.

The Egyptian giants issued an official statement on Sunday stating they wrote a request to CAF President Patrice Motsepe have the final in a neutral venue amid claims Morocco could host it for a second consecutive season.

With Ahly favourites to advance to their consecutive final under Pitso Mosimane, with a 4-0 advantage from the 1st leg semi-final over ES Setif, Wydad look poised to join them as they hold a 3-1 lead over Petro Atletico, following their win in Luanda on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking to Kora Plus, Naciri insisted the Red Devils should have no influence on the venue decision and the two-time African champions are ready for whatever decision is made.

“We do not pay attention to Al Ahly’s statement. This statement is considered pressure on CAF to move the match outside Morocco,” he said.

“The statements issued by the club are not decisions, and they are not considered by CAF. It is enough that will decide the place of the African Champions League final. Whether the final is in Morocco or anywhere else, we are ready.”
