Uganda – President Yoweri Museveni warned citizens not to join anti-corruption protests, saying they are “playing with fire.” The Uganda Police Force did not give a permit for the protests and called them “potentially anarchic.” Despite this, many young Ugandans plan to march. Museveni, who has been in power for nearly 40 years, stressed the need to focus on producing food and keeping order. Young Ugandans are sharing plans on social media and preparing for possible violence.

Kenya – Seventeen-year-old Marian Pannalossy lives alone in Archer’s Post, Kenya, and is often excluded socially because of her mixed-race background. Her mother, Lydia Juma, who died two years after Marian was born without revealing the identity of her father, said the teen was conceived through rape by a British soldier. Juma shared her story in the 2011 documentary The Rape of the Samburu Women. More than 400 Kenyan women have previously said British soldiers stationed in the country attacked them in incidents stretching back to 1983.

South Korea – Kim Beom-su, the founder of South Korean tech company Kakao Corp, was arrested for allegedly manipulating stocks during the takeover of K-pop agency SM Entertainment last year. Prosecutors say Kim interfered with a competitor’s bid. Kim denies the charges. His arrest could impact Kakao’s AI projects and global growth. Kim, who owns 24% of Kakao, is being held for up to 20 days for further investigation.

US – Vice-President Kamala Harris made her first public appearance in a black Dolce & Gabbana suit after President Joe Biden endorsed her as the new Democratic candidate for the 2024 presidential race. Within 24 hours, Harris received a record $81-million (R1.4-billion) in donations from grassroots supporters. Major donors and groups like Win With Black Women also showed strong support. High-profile donors, including LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, are backing Harris as the Democratic nominee.
