Botswana – The second-largest diamond ever discovered has been found at the Karowe Mine in Botswana. The 2,492-carat diamond is smaller than only the 3,106-carat Cullinan Diamond found in South Africa in 1905. Botswana’s President, Mokgweetsi Masisi, will show the diamond to the public, emphasising Botswana’s position as a major diamond producer.
Bangkok – A small plane carrying nine people, including two Thai pilots and five Chinese passengers, crashed near Bangkok on Thursday. The plane lost contact shortly after takeoff, and witnesses saw it fall and explode. Everyone on board is believed to have died. Rescue teams are still searching the area.
Iceland – Iceland has declared an emergency after a volcanic eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula. This is the sixth eruption since December. A large crack opened in the ground, causing lava to flow quickly in different directions. Authorities had warned about possible volcanic activity after detecting signs of magma buildup.
China – Shein, a major clothing company, reported finding two cases of child labour among its suppliers last year. In response, Shein stopped working with those suppliers until they improved their practices. The company has made stricter rules, now ending contracts immediately if suppliers use child labour. Shein has seen fewer child labour violations in recent years.
