China – Jane Xue, a 27-year-old PhD student in Fuzhou, China, has sent her two-year-old Samoyed named Okay to work at a dog café. She said it was like sending a child to school, adding that her dog loves socialising with other animals, which also helps with loneliness when she and her partner are away. Pet cafés are becoming popular in China, where visitors pay to interact with animals, helping café owners make money. The trend of pets “earning snack money,” called “zhengmaotiaoqian” in Chinese, is growing, with café owners offering treats and discounts for pet owners whose animals “are at work.”
New York – Grammy winner Tyla Laura Seethal wowed the audience on 15 October at an event in New York City. The 22-year-old South African amapiano singer performed her hits “Water” and “Push 2 Start” while wearing a striking lingerie set with matching garters and angel wings. She completed the look with sparkling heels, chunky rings and glittery makeup, standing out even among runway models. Tyla was part of an all-women musical line-up for the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which has returned after six years.
Germany – Lufthansa, Germany’s largest airline, was fined $4-million by the US Department of Transportation for discriminating against 128 Jewish passengers in May 2022. The passengers, dressed in Orthodox Jewish attire, were denied boarding in Frankfurt due to the misbehaviour of a few, even though they were not travelling together. Lufthansa blamed the incident on communication errors and denied any discrimination.
New York – Tyra Banks made a sensational comeback at the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, closing the event in a bedazzled black bra, corset and sparkly leggings. At 50, she wowed the audience, encouraging them to clap along as she walked the runway, followed by models like Adriana Lima and the Hadid sisters. The event ended with pink confetti falling as the models celebrated. Banks last appeared in the show in 2005.
