US – Elon Musk, the world’s richest person with $251 billion, might become the first trillionaire by 2027, according to an Informa Connect Academy report. His wealth grows at 110% yearly, meaning he could hit this milestone in three years if the trend continues. Musk’s electric car company, Tesla, now worth $669.3 billion, could pass $1 trillion by 2025, growing at 173.3% annually. Microsoft and Apple remain the two most valuable companies globally, worth $3.4 trillion and $3.3 trillion, respectively. The report also suggests that Indian billionaire Gautam Adani, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and Indonesian businessman Prajogo Pangestu could become trillionaires by 2028.

Kenya – Kenyan media reports that Dickson Ndiema, accused of fatally burning Ugandan Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei, has died. Cheptegei died last Thursday from severe burns during an alleged land dispute. Ndiema, who reportedly bought petrol, poured it on her, and set her on fire, had over 30% burns. He died Monday night at the same hospital where Cheptegei was treated. Cheptegei recently ran in the 2024 Paris Olympics marathon, finishing 44th.

Sudan – Over 20,000 people have died in Sudan’s 16-month war, according to World Health Organisation chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. At a press conference in Port Sudan, he warned that the real death toll could be higher. The conflict between the military and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces has destroyed cities, ruined infrastructure, and collapsed healthcare. It has caused the world’s largest displacement crisis, with over 13 million people fleeing, including 2.3 million to nearby countries.

US – Jennifer Lopez and Matt Damon remain close friends despite her recent divorce from Ben Affleck. They were seen together at the Unstoppable premiere on 6 September at the Toronto International Film Festival. Sources say Lopez and Damon enjoyed catching up and had a deep 20-minute conversation at the afterparty. They laughed and held hands while chatting. Affleck, who co-produced Unstoppable with Damon through their company Artists Equity, wasn’t present.
