US – Elon Musk’s interview with Republican candidate Donald Trump on X had major technical problems, starting more than 40 minutes late and leaving many people unable to watch. The interview took place as Trump tried to restart his re-election campaign against Vice President Kamala Harris. Musk asked Trump-friendly questions about topics like immigration and inflation, and Trump made several unverified claims. Musk, who recently supported Trump, blamed the technical problems on a cyberattack.

UK – Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s chief of staff, Josh Kettler, quit after only three months, according to the Daily Mail. Kettler was supposed to join the couple on a trip to Colombia but left without explaining why. This is the latest in a series of staff departures since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex got married in 2018, with many quitting after they moved to California in 2020. A former staffer said that no employee would want the job again.

Philippines – Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr criticised the Chinese air force for its actions in the South China Sea, calling them “unjustified, illegal, and reckless”. This comes after Chinese aircraft dropped flares near a Philippine plane close to the disputed Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea. This is the first complaint involving China’s aircraft since Marcos took office in 2022. China accused the Philippines of disrupting their training and “illegally intruding” into Chinese airspace.

US – Vera Liddell, a 68-year-old school worker, was sentenced to nine years in jail for stealing $1.5 million (R27 million) worth of chicken wings. Over a year, starting in July 2020, Liddell took 11,000 cases of wings meant for students during the Covid-19 pandemic. She used a school van to move the stolen food, which never reached the students. The theft was discovered during a routine audit when it was found that food costs were $300,000 (R5.5 million) over budget. Liddell, who had been in charge of the food service for 10 years, was charged with theft and running a criminal operation.
