Congo – A new Mpox variant is causing problems for sex worker Sifa Kunguja in Kamituga, Congo. She is struggling to find clients due to the stigma, even after recovering from the disease. Most cases in this mining town have spread through sex, and sex workers are uncertain how to stay safe. The local government can do little, providing only basic care. Miners say they’ve heard little about the outbreak at work, worsening the situation.
US – R. Kelly’s daughter, Joanne, has vowed not to let her future son meet his grandfather, who is serving a 30-year jail term for sex crimes. In a new film, she talks about once looking up to her dad but now distancing herself from him following his 2021 conviction. Her mother, Drea Kelly, criticises R. Kelly for being a bad father who didn’t maintain a relationship with his kids.
Britain – A study shows that Americans are more likely than Brits to have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and obesity. However, Brits tend to perceive their health negatively, with concerns that without the NHS, the UK could face similar health challenges as the US. While the US has wider health disparities, obesity and blood pressure are still significant concerns in Britain.
US – Fidelity reports that X (formerly Twitter) has lost around 80% of its value since Elon Musk bought it for $44-billion in October 2022, with its current value now at just $9.4-billion. Ad revenue has sharply declined, as companies are concerned about extreme content on the platform. A recent survey found that 26% of marketers plan to reduce their spending on X.
