Spain – Katy Perry’s new music video, Lifetimes, is being investigated for possibly being filmed on protected dunes in the Balearic Islands. The video was shot, apparently without permission, on Formentera’s beaches and the S’Espalmador islet. Although an investigation is ongoing, it’s not considered a serious crime, as permission might have been granted if requested. Perry has not commented. The video is part of her upcoming album 143, set to be released in September.

Italy – Dolce & Gabbana has released a new alcohol-free perfume for dogs. Fefé is named after Domenico Dolce’s poodle and is priced at R2,000 for 100 millilitres. The perfume is safe for dogs and has received positive feedback from pet owners and veterinarians. However, some vets, like Federico Coccía, are worried that the perfume might interfere with dogs’ sense of smell, which is essential for their health. Coccía warns that covering up natural odours could make it harder to detect health problems.

Japan – Typhoon Ampil, currently a Category 1 storm with winds of 140 kph, is getting stronger as it moves towards Japan and is expected to hit the country on Friday. The storm might become a Category 3, bringing strong winds, heavy rain, and possible flooding to northern and eastern Japan, including Tokyo. Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways have cancelled around 500 flights, and six bullet train lines have stopped services, causing major travel disruptions during the busy summer season. Even though the storm’s centre might stay offshore, coastal areas could still be affected. Authorities have urged people to be prepared.

Hong Kong – China has proposed a new law to make marriage registration easier but divorce more difficult. The draft law aims to create a “family-friendly society” and is open for public feedback until 11 September. The law removes regional restrictions for marriage registration and requires a 30-day cooling-off period for divorces during which either party can change their mind. The law is part of China’s efforts to encourage marriage and childbirth. The country’s population is declining, with marriage rates hitting their lowest since 2013.
