US – Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck after two years of marriage. The filing took place on their second wedding anniversary. Rumours of trouble started in May 2024 when Affleck was seen without his wedding ring and reportedly moved out of their Beverly Hills home. Both have been spotted looking for new homes in Los Angeles.
Kenya – Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, who allegedly confessed to killing 42 women, escaped from police custody along with 12 Eritrean nationals who were being held for immigration violations. They escaped early on Tuesday after cutting through wire mesh and climbing the perimeter wall of a police station in Nairobi. Authorities believe the escape was aided by insiders, leading to disciplinary action against eight officers. Khalusha was being held for further investigation before facing charges. His lawyer claims he was tortured into confessing and maintains that Khalusha is innocent.
US – At the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, former president Barack Obama gave a powerful speech supporting Kamala Harris and criticising Donald Trump. He asked Americans to fight for the country’s future. Former first lady Michelle Obama received a warm welcome and spoke about the loss of hope in the country, but said that “hope is making a comeback.” She subtly criticised Trump while praising Harris’ achievements and encouraged Americans to vote in large numbers.
Ukraine – Ukraine launched one of its biggest drone attacks on Moscow on Wednesday. Russian air defence units shot down at least 10 drones, according to Moscow’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin. Some drones were brought down over the city of Podolsk, about 38 kilometres south of the Kremlin. The attack, which caused no injuries or damage, is part of Ukraine’s response to ongoing Russian strikes.
