Florida – Hurricane Milton has hit Florida hard. Over three million homes are without power. The storm, previously rated at Category 5, has weekend to Category 1. In St. Petersburg, a baseball stadium lost its roof and a crane has fallen. Emergency services have been suspended in some areas, and deaths were reported on the Atlantic coast. This comes just two weeks after Hurricane Helene killed over 225 people in southern states.

US – Pop star Taylor Swift gave $5 million to help Florida after Hurricane Helene and before Hurricane Milton. The money went to the Feeding America, hunger relief organisation to provide food and supplies. Swift, now worth $1.6 billion, hasn’t mentioned the donation online. She’s set to perform in Florida next week, with no word yet on cancellations. Swift has ties with Florida, once owning a home there and writing a song called “Florida!!!”.

Turkey – A Turkish Airlines pilot died mid-flight from Seattle to Istanbul. Ilcehin Pehlivan, 59, passed out and couldn’t be saved. The co-pilot landed safely in New York. Pehlivan had worked for the airline since 2007 and seemed healthy. The airline is helping passengers continue their trip.

US – Sean “Diddy” Combs, in jail for sex trafficking and other charges, says officials leaked info that could hurt his trial. His lawyers are angry about shared details of home searches and a 2016 video of Combs attacking his ex-girlfriend. They want a hearing to check the evidence and aim for a trial in April or May 2025. Prosecutors haven’t answered yet.
