Gabon – Scientists studying gorillas in Gabon’s Moukalaba-Doudou National Park have discovered four plants with healing properties that could help develop new medicines. Gorillas use these plants, like the fromager tree and African teak, to heal themselves, just as local healers do. The fromager tree is particularly effective at fighting drug-resistant bacteria. The study highlights the importance of protecting Central Africa’s forests and endangered gorillas. The findings were published in the journal PLOS ONE.

Greenland – A landslide in Greenland last September caused a massive tsunami that made the Earth vibrate for nine days. The landslide was triggered by a melting glacier linked to climate change. The tsunami’s waves sent vibrations through the Earth. This is the first time scientists have recorded such long-lasting vibrations caused by a tsunami.

Spain – Monterroso, a small town in Galicia, has warmly welcomed 120 asylum seekers from Mali who were fleeing violence in their home country. The local football club helped the refugees settle by providing clothes and accommodation. Although the town’s mayor was initially opposed to the refugees, most residents have responded positively, and the asylum seekers are eager to work and contribute to the community.

Chicago – The Adalina restaurant in the city has introduced a very expensive cocktail called the “Marrow Martini”, served with a nine-carat diamond necklace. The drink uses rare mezcal from Mexico and was created in partnership with a jewellery brand called Marrow Fine.
