Singapore – Dozens of employees at ByteDance’s headquarters in Singapore – the company behind TikTok – got sick from food poisoning. At least 60 workers suffered cramps, diarrhoea and vomiting, with 57 needing to go to hospital. Emergency services, including 17 ambulances, were sent to the office. ByteDance, which uses outside suppliers for its office canteen, said they are helping the employees and working with authorities to investigate. The Singapore Ministry of Health is also looking into the incident.
Sudan – A Human Rights Watch (HRW) report has revealed widespread sexual violence against women and girls in Sudan, mainly by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in Khartoum that have been fighting Sudan’s army since the civil war started in April 2023. “The Rapid Support Forces have raped, gang-raped, and forced into marriage countless women and girls in residential areas in Sudan’s capital,” HRW said, adding that “both warring parties have blocked them from getting aid and support services, compounding the harm they face and leaving them to feel that nowhere is safe.”
United Kingdom – A source told People magazine that the fight between Prince William and Prince Harry can still be fixed. The tension started in 2016 when William worried about how fast Harry’s relationship with Meghan Markle was moving. The brothers last appeared together publicly after Queen Elizabeth II’s death in September 2022. The fight worsened when Harry and Meghan left their royal duties and moved to the US in 2020. Right now, William is said to be avoiding Harry.
Iran – Thousands came together in Tehran for Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh’s funeral. Iran and Hamas blamed Israel for his assassination. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who led the prayers, has promised revenge and ordered a direct strike on Israel. Israel has not confirmed or denied involvement, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel is ready for any scenario and has hit its enemies hard.
