China – A zoo in Guangdong province faces criticism after people found out that its “pandas” are dogs. Visitors at Shanwei Zoo were shocked when the animals, advertised as pandas, started barking. The zoo first claimed they were a special breed of “panda dogs” but later admitted they had dyed two Chow Chow puppies to look like pandas. The fluffy dogs are popular in China.
US – Serena Williams, 42, talked about being a mom on the Inbound podcast with Kara Swisher. She shared that her seven-year-old daughter, Alexis Olympia Jr., isn’t into princesses but loves Taylor Swift. Serena also said she tries to protect her daughters from negative online content and that being a good mom is not just about winning but showing up for her children.
New York – Shyne Barrow, a former rapper and now a politician in Belize, has spoken out after Sean “Diddy” Combs’ recent arrest. Shyne, who was once part of Diddy’s music label, said Diddy ruined his life by turning against him in court after a 1999 nightclub shooting which led to Shyne spending 10 years in prison. Diddy was found not guilty in that case but Shyne was deported to Belize after his release.
Democratic Republic of Congo – Over the last nine months, 33 Congolese fishermen have been killed and 56 injured in nighttime attacks on Lake Kivu. Local fishermen say Rwandan naval forces are responsible. Congolese authorities have promised more security, including patrol boats and cameras, as tensions with Rwanda continue to rise.
Egypt – Archaeologists near Alexandria have found the remains of an old Egyptian army barracks, including a bronze sword bearing the name of King Ramses II. The site, dating back to around 1279-1213 BC, also contained weapons, jewellery, and personal items from soldiers who defended Egypt’s borders. A burial site for a cow, symbolising strength and wealth, was also discovered.
