World Cup Prize Money Revealed

With the FIFA World Cup drawing to its conclusion this weekend, iDiski Times takes a look at the mouth-watering prize money on offer for the final four teams in the competition.

Teams who have gone home have already pocketed a fair purse, with those who didn’t exit the group stages leaving with $9 million (R159m) per team. 

The eight teams who lost in the last sixteen left with $13 million (R230m) each, while the four losing quarter-finalists pocketed $17 million (R300m).

On Saturday Morocco and Croatia will battle it out for third and fourth, with the loser taking home $25 million (R441m) while the victor will earn $27 million (R477m).

Finally, the winner between Argentina and France in Sunday’s final will take home $42 million (R742m), while runners-up will exit with $30 million (R530m). 

The breakdown is as follows (all figures are in USD):

• Champions: USD 42 million

• Runners-up: USD 30 million

• Third place: USD 27 million

• Fourth place: USD 25 million

• 5th-8th place: USD 68 million (USD 17 million per team)

• 9th-16th place: USD 104 million (USD 13 million per team)
