Music lovers, industry players, and fans can rejoice as the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) officially return with SAMA 31.

SAMA31 NOMINEE ANNOUNCEMENT SET TO TAKE CENTRE THIS AUGUST

After the thrilling and successful SAMA30 event last year, the SAMAs return with the same energy and excitement as ever. The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) has confirmed that the SAMA 31 nominee announcement will take place this August.

The SAMA 31 nominee announcement will be hosted by Letuka Dlamini and Zama Naomi, ensuring the evening sparkles with charisma. The live-streamed event takes place on 28 August 2025, from 18h00 to 19h30, exclusively on the SAMA YouTube channel.

This marks the first major milestone in celebrating the country’s most prestigious awards, spotlighting South African artists, culture, and enduring musical brilliance.

RiSA CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi said: “The SAMAs are not just about trophies – they’re about legacy, impact, and stories.”

He added: “In our 31st year, we remain committed to honouring the voices shaping culture and beats moving people.”

Since their inception in 1995, the SAMAs have showcased creative excellence, preserved cultural heritage, and promoted national unity across generations.

WOMEN’S MONTH RESONANCE AND SYMBOLISM

“Announcing SAMA 31 nominees during Women’s Month carries resonance deeper than a date on the calendar,” continued Sibisi.

This symbolic act aligns with Women’s Month, celebrating leadership, resilience, and achievements of women across multiple industries, art, and societal platforms.

The announcement reaffirms the importance of recognising women’s contributions in spaces where they have historically been overlooked, undervalued, and underrepresented.

Motsepe Foundation, Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, SAMPRA, SAMRO, and CAPASSO proudly support the 2025 SAMAs.

Together with SABC as a media partner, these organisations enable inclusivity, amplify diverse voices, and help South Africa grow its thriving musical ecosystem.

Sibisi concluded: “We are deeply grateful to the judges for their expertise, dedication, and thoughtful consideration of nominees.”

Performances will feature Priddy Ugly, Steve Dyer, and DJ Thabi Thabs, delivering an unforgettable mix of hip hop, jazz, and electronic beats.

The virtual announcement streams live on SAMA platforms, giving fans and stakeholders front-row access to the year’s defining sounds. The main awards ceremony takes place in November 2025, promising performances, tributes, and unforgettable musical moments in South African history.
