- Their detention follows the arrest of two men in Ekurhuleni who were allegedly found with unlicensed firearms, ammunition and a hijacked vehicle.
- Police have warned that reckless handling of firearms poses serious safety risks and may violate the Firearms Control Act.
Two women who were seen handling and cocking firearms in a viral social media video have been taken into police custody.
Their detention follows the arrest of two men in Ekurhuleni on Friday in connection with the same video.
The suspects were allegedly found in possession of a hijacked vehicle after police launched a tracing operation.
The two men, aged 21 and 34, were arrested for alleged contravention of the Firearms Control Act, illegal possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, as well as possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court next week.
Meanwhile, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has issued a stern warning following the circulation of the footage, which appears to show women recklessly handling firearms.
Two men arrested in connection with a viral firearms video, were also found with a hijacked vehicle.
The pair was arrested in Tembisa, in Ekurhuleni yesterday, after police launched a tracing operation.

Police said the video suggested a lack of professional firearm training and reminded the public that the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000 permits only authorised and licensed individuals to handle firearms legally.
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe warned that such misuse poses a serious risk to both those involved and the broader public.
She added that firearm owners carry legal responsibility to ensure their weapons are not accessed by individuals who do not possess the required competency certificates.
