  • Vuyokazi Fredy received 13 years of direct imprisonment for the fatal assault of her partner.
  • Sergeant Arthur Lokwe was killed with a knobkerrie during a domestic dispute in June 2025.
  • The accused attempted to stage the crime scene and mislead police before forensic evidence exposed her lies.

Vuyokazi Fredy has been sentenced at the East London Regional Court to 13 years behind bars for the murder of her boyfriend, Sergeant Arthur Lokwe, and for defeating the ends of justice.

The sentencing, handed down on 3 March 2026, follows a violent altercation that occurred on 15 June 2025 at the couple’s residence.

During the dispute, Fredy struck the sergeant with a knobkerrie, inflicting fatal head injuries. She also assaulted an acquaintance who attempted to intervene.

After the officer lost consciousness, Fredy waited until the following morning to report him as “unresponsive” to the Kwenxurha SAPS, sparking a major multidisciplinary investigation.

Specialist teams, including the Hawks and Provincial Crime Scene Investigation, quickly identified that the scene had been staged. The forensic evidence contradicted Fredy’s claims, leading to her arrest for murder and obstruction.

The court originally imposed a 15-year term, with two years suspended provided she commits no further violent offences. Consequently, Fredy will serve 13 years of effective direct imprisonment.
