Major General Girly Mbele, the acting Gauteng provincial commissioner of police, has condemned the incident in which a 16-year-old boy was allegedly assaulted to death and buried in the backyard by his aunt and her son.
The 35-year-old lady was arrested, and she was scheduled to appear in Tsakane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, facing allegations of murder, perjury, and defeating the ends of justice.
Meanwhile, in weekend operations across Gauteng, police detained over 700 people for a variety of offences, including rape, sexual assaults, murder, possession of unlicensed firearms, possession of suspected stolen property, and illicit liquor trade.
Others were apprehended for reportedly trading in drugs, driving under the influence of booze, and being undocumented immigrants, according to Gauteng police spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Sello.
