Miss South Africa 2024 Mia Le Roux may finally have a chance to compete at the Miss Universe pageant after withdrawing during the preliminary stages last year due to health concerns.
This comes after the national pageant recently come under new ownership under the Motsepe Group of Companies, led by wealthy businessman Patrice Motsepe.
Earlier this month, Mia celebrated her first anniversary as the titleholder. As the Miss SA pageant has been postponed indefinitely, the competition’s first hearing-impaired winner continues her reign.
The Miss Universe takes place on 21 November in Thailand.
COULD MIA LE ROUX COMPETE AT MISS UNIVERSE AGAIN?
According to pageant enthusiast Rina Hendricks – the Miss SA organisers have two possible options regarding a Miss Universe representative: send the reigning queen, Mia Le Roux, or send a previous representative, who did not compete at the pageant.
As she did not make it to the preliminary rounds, Hendricks believes “technically, Mia Le Roux hasn’t competed at Miss Universe.”
The international pageant prohibits representatives from competing more than once.
“Ostensibly, this means that the Miss South Africa organisation could send Mia Le Roux to Miss Universe”.
“Mia is in the grey zone where she didnt compete because she didnt go to the preliminary competition.
“It is definitely an opinion”.
Rina Hendricks added that Miss SA organisers could also elect to send runner-up, Nompumelelo Maduna, to the pageant.
WHY MIA LE ROUX SHE WITHDRAW?
In a video shared on her Instagram account, Mia Le Roux shared how vertigo impacted her decision to withdraw from the Miss Universe pageant.
She shared, “Mentally, I was very strong. I was ready, but physically my body was taking a lot of strain, and I even had to seek medical help in Mexico City. And even after the medical help, my condition still wasn’t improving.

“On the night of the preliminary competition, I continued to push myself. I was ready in my national costume to showcase it proudly. But my body was just saying no, and my vertigo intensified and became unmanageable.”
Mia Le Roux added that her imbalance was severely impacted by her falling repeatedly.
She added: “I had to very quickly realise and be at peace with the fact that this was not the road that was meant for me.”
